The Back to School Reset

A Neuro-Affirming 10 Step Back to School Reset

The first morning back at school can feel like a shock to the entire family, even the dog!

Suddenly, everyone needs to wake up earlier, get dressed, eat, brush their teeth, find matching shoes, pack their bags, remember their lunch, manage their time, and get out the door before 8 am without setting the kitchen alight, having a meltdown, or threatening divorce!

For neurodivergent children and their parents, that shift back can place huge demands on sensory processing, emotional regulation, working memory, time awareness and task initiation.
For parents and carers, it can mean using every bit of energy before their working day has even begun.

However you’ve spent the holidays, the routine is generally different from a school day. Some children may have been at holiday clubs, childcare or activities while their parents continued working. Others may have stayed at home or spent time away on holiday.
Whichever applies, the structure is likely to have been different, with more flexibility, fewer belongings to remember, no uniform, less academic pressure, fewer transitions and more space for recovery.
Then school returns, and the demands increase all at once.

To help families navigate that transition without the need for a fire extinguisher, Neurominds has developed a practical 40-minute parent session designed to avoid leaving everything until the last minute.
Instead, parents are guided through a simple 10-step plan, with small, manageable shifts that are straightforward and sustainable.

The aim is not to create an Instagram-perfect morning routine.
It is to make the first morning back feel less chaotic, less exhausting and more predictable for everyone.
By making small shifts before the first day back, families can reduce the impact of the transition and help children arrive at school more ready to engage with the day and, their learning.
Parents can also begin their own day with more energy, less guilt and no need to apologise to the neighbours.
Suitable for parents and carers of neurodivergent children and young people in education.

To help families navigate that transition without the need for a fire extinguisher, Neurominds has developed a practical 40-minute parent session designed to avoid leaving everything until the last minute.
Instead, parents are guided through a simple 10-day countdown, with one small, manageable shift each day.

The aim is not to create an Instagram-perfect morning routine.
It is to make the first morning back feel less chaotic, less exhausting and more predictable for everyone.
By making small shifts over ten days, families can reduce the size of the transition and help children arrive at school more ready to engage with the day and, ultimately, the new academic year.
Parents can also begin their own day with more energy, less guilt and no need to apologise to the neighbours.
Suitable for parents and carers of neurodivergent children and young people in education.
